Want to create soft, beautiful light in your home while maintaining privacy and style? Custom dual sheer blinds are the perfect choice. With accurate measurements, your blinds will fit your windows flawlessly, adding elegance and functionality to any room.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about measuring for your blinds—so you can order with confidence and enjoy a perfect fit.
1. Preparation
Before you start, make sure you have the right tools on hand:
- A precise metal tape measure
- Paper and pen for recording dimensions
- A ladder (if your windows are tall)
💡 Tip: Accurate measurements are the first step to a perfect custom fit—it directly affects both installation and appearance!
2. Choosing the Installation Location
First, decide whether you’ll be installing your dual sheer blinds on a window or a french door.
2.1 Measuring for Windows
-
Width Measurement (A, B, C): Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window. Use the smallest measurement as your final width.
- If your measurement includes 1/16" or 1/32", round down to the nearest 1/8".
-
Height Measurement (D, E, F): Measure the height on the left, middle, and right sides of the window. Use the smallest measurement as your final height.
- Again, round down to the nearest 1/8" if needed.
- Depth Measurement (G)
2.2 Measuring for French Doors
You’ll need three key dimensions:
- Width (A): Distance from the left edge of the glass to the right edge.
- Height (B): Distance from the top of the glass to the bottom.
- Top Clearance (C): Distance from the top of the door to the top of the glass.
The method is similar to window measurements—just remember to be precise.
3. Inside Mount vs. Outside Mount – Which One Should You Choose?
The depth of your window frame is the deciding factor:
- Less than 3 1/8 inches: Choose an outside mount.
- More than 3 1/8 inches: Either option works, but outside mount offers better light blocking.
Note (for French doors): The distance from the top of the door to the top of the glass (Measurement C) must be at least 1 inch. This clearance is necessary to allow enough space for drilling and securely fixing the sheer shades with screws.
3.1 Inside Mount – How to Measure 📏
- Order Width = Window Width – 1/2"
- Order Height = Window Height
- Window frame depth must be ≥ 3 1/8 inches
- Round down increments of 1/16" or 1/32" to the nearest 1/8".
Example:
- Window Width = 35 11/16" → Order Width = 35 5/8"
- Window Height = 75 11/16" → Order Height = 75 5/8"
Note: No need to make your own deductions — our factory will handle adjustments for the perfect fit.
3.2 Outside Mount – How to Measure 📏
- Creates a taller, more dramatic look
- No minimum depth required
- Order Width = Window Width + 8"
- Order Height = Window Height + 8"
- Round up to the nearest 1/8" if needed.
Example:
- Window Width = 35 11/16" → Order Width = 43 3/4"
- Window Height = 75 11/16" → Order Height = 83 3/4"
3.3 Outside Mount for French Doors
- No minimum depth required
- Order Width = Glass Width (edge to edge)
- Order Height = Glass Height + 6"
- Round up to the nearest 1/8" if needed.
Example:
- Glass Width = 35 11/16" → Order Width = 35 3/4"
- Glass Height = 75 11/16" → Order Height = 81 3/4"
Note: Again, no deductions are necessary—your blinds will arrive ready for a polished look.
4. Final Tips
