I. Tools You’ll Need

Essential: Steel tape measure (fabric tapes can be inaccurate)

II. How to Determine Drapery Width

To ensure a luxurious drape and a full, high-end look, all Morrahome custom curtains are made with default 2x Fullness.

You don't need to do any math regarding the actual fabric width. Just tell us the rod length you want to cover. We will automatically add the extra fabric needed to create those beautiful, rich folds.

The Golden Rule

Order Width = The width you want a single panel to cover.

(Morrahome automatically calculates 2x fabric based on your input to create the waves.)

Step 1: Determine Total Coverage Width

First, determine the total horizontal distance you need to cover.

Scenario 1: Rod Already Installed

Measure the length of the rod between the decorative ends.

Total Coverage Width = Measured Rod Length (excluding finials)

Scenario 2: No Rod Installed Yet

If you haven't bought a rod yet, measure your window frame and add "extensions" to both sides.

Recommended Formula: Total Width = Window Width + (Extension 6"–15" × 2)

  • Maximize Light (Stackback): Extensions allow the open curtains to stack against the wall rather than blocking the glass.
  • Visual Impact: Extending the rod past the frame makes your window look wider and your room grander.
  • Prevent Light Leaks: Wider coverage blocks light from creeping in at the edges for better privacy.

Step 2: Calculate Your "Order Width"

Decide how you want your curtains to open, then calculate the width to enter at checkout.

🌟 Option A: Double Panels / Split Draw (Most Popular)

Two panels that meet in the middle and open to both sides.

  • Calculation: Divide Total Coverage Width by 2.
  • How to Order:
    • Width: Total Width ÷ 2
    • Quantity: 2 Panels

(💡 Pro Tip: Add an extra 1–2 inches to each panel's width to ensure they overlap tightly in the middle with no light gaps.)

Option B: Single Panel / One-Way Draw

One continuous panel that covers the entire window, usually pulled to one side.

  • Calculation: Use the Total Coverage Width.
  • How to Order:
    • Width: Total Width
    • Quantity: 1 Panel

Step 3: A Real-World Example

Scenario:

You measure your window frame at 60 inches. To make the window look larger and maximize light, you decide to add a 10-inch extension on each side.

  • Determine Total Coverage Width:
60" + (10" x 2) = 80 inches

III. How to Measure Curtain Length

Formula:

Final Order Length = Measured Drop +/- Style Adjustment

Step 1: Determine Mounting Height

  • If your rod is already installed: Skip to Step 2.
  • If you haven't installed a rod: We recommend mounting the rod 6–8 inches above the window frame (or closer to the ceiling). This draws the eye upward, making your ceilings look higher and the room more spacious.

Step 2: Take the Measurement (The Drop)

Measure vertically from your Starting Point down to the floor. ⚠️ Crucial: Your "Starting Point" depends on your header style.

  • For Rings & Tracks (Pleated Styles): Measure from the bottom of the ring eyelet (the small hole where the hook hangs) or the bottom of the track carrier.
  • For Grommet & Rod Pocket Styles: Measure from the very top of the curtain rod.

Step 3: Choose Your "Finish Style"

Decide how you want the bottom of the curtains to sit on the floor.

Floating Subtract
1"		 Clean and practical. The curtain hangs just above the floor, staying free of dust. High-traffic areas, sliding glass doors, kitchens.
Kiss + 0" (Exact) Crisp and tailored. The hem barely touches the floor. Modern, minimalist interiors.
Puddle Add 2" – 4" Romantic and luxurious. The fabric pools elegantly on the floor. Formal living rooms, bedrooms.

💡 Pro Tip: While the "Puddle" look is beautiful, we recommend keeping the extra length between 2–4 inches. Anything longer can collect dust and make the curtains difficult to open and close daily.

Measurement Example

Let's say you measured from the bottom of your ring eyelet down to the floor, and the distance is 96 inches.

  • If you want a "Floating" look: 96" - 1" = 95" (This is your Order Length)
  • If you want a "Puddle" look: 96" + 2" = 98" (This is your Order Length)

💡 Pro Tips

  • Measure Individually: Never assume all windows are the same size or that floors are perfectly level. Always measure each window separately.
  • When in Doubt, Go Wider: Better to have too much fabric than too little. Extra width adds luxurious fullness; too little leaves gaps.
  • Built-in Forgiveness: Don't stress about small height errors. Our pleated curtains come with adjustable hooks, allowing you to tweak the length by 1–2 inches to compensate for uneven floors.
  • Rounding: Using a steel tape measure, round your measurements to the nearest whole inch.

What if the size exceeds the maximum limit?

Fabric Roll Width

The exact width of the fabric roll—typically around 110"—is used by default to determine the width of each curtain panel.

Rotation

Rotation refers to turning the fabric sideways to gain additional length. This method is used when curtain panels need to be longer than 104".

Splicing

Splicing involves sewing two pieces of fabric together to achieve oversized curtain width or length when both dimensions must exceed 104". This process may result in visible seams, but they are carefully sewn to maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
